OUR MISSION

Investing in Prevention

Operating under the name Primarily Hooves, Belgian Lane Farms is a 501(c)3 non-profit whose land boasts a beautiful and secluded piece of paradise for the many horses who call it their home, whether permanent family members or rehab horses using it as a safe place to fall. Nestled in the foothills of the Cherokee Mountains, our 66 acre farm provides a tranquil atmosphere and ample privacy for our rehab horses to enjoy while embarking on their path to recovery.

With 25 years in the industry, Primarily Hooves was officially founded in 2015 and set out with a mission. After becoming extremely disheartened at seeing the amount of horses slated to early retirement and even euthanasia due to very preventable hoof ailments, Primarily Hooves set out to provide a facility capable of giving these "last ditch lameness" cases what they needed to not only return to soundness, but return to full work too.

After spending years personally taking on horses with no where left to turn and successfully giving them their second chance; bringing them back into work to either go on and continue their riding career or to give back to the community by visiting the elderly and handicap in our area, Primarily Hooves has officially opened its doors to horse and owner looking for a new hope. Our goal is to provide horse owners with a safe and affordable hoof care alternative to break the cycle of lameness that is running so rampant in our modern horse communities.

Just as important, we found educating the average horse owner is monumental in reducing the number of horses going chronically lame. By empowering these horse owners with knowledge and education, they are able to better make decisions that ultimately impact their horse's long term health and soundness. We utilize our farm by offering private educational hoof clinics to the owners of horses attending our rehabilitation program, with hopes of being able to open ours doors on a more public spectrum. Additionally, we use both personal and boarded rehab cases to document and share on our online forums, making it possible to share the news of change with a wider audience; expanding our reach to help those in need whether in-person or virtually.

Through our relationship with Dr. Robert Bowker, world renown hoof anatomy researcher and recently retired head of Michigan State University's The Hoof Lab, we have been able to advance our techniques and services to better and more efficiently recover horses from a variety of common lamenesses; including, but mot limited to: navicular disease/syndrome, laminitis, founder, white line disease, and pain associated with ringbone. In return, Dr. Bowker currently uses some of our documented case studies for educational purposes as he travels lecturing to farriers and veterinarians.
